A very interesting link showed up in Pop Lock and Learn\’s inbox today leading to an article discussing research that has been conducted on how between childhood and adulthood neural map of the brain rearranges to conceptualize arithmetic. We have long been intrigued by the subject of brain development and all the activity that takes place when the stimuli of mathematics is introduced to a child\’s mind. This indeed is one of the big reasons our debut release was \”The Hip Hop Times Tables.\”
Addition and subtraction are simple enough concepts for everyone to grasp, but when multiplication is introduced, a new layer of complexity is brought into a child\’s thinking process. A child can easily lose touch with mathematics if this new layer of complexity is introduced and not understood completely. The instant they lose touch with multiplication, and henceforth math, they do not allow themselves from that moment on to consider taking a careers as an engineer, scientist or exploring outer space as an astronaut. Parents and teachers need to take note and remember multiplication to be a very early milestone in a child\’s educational development. It\’s incredible how relatable it can be to the education and career choices they make later in life.
